Step Up Case Study - College Connect + - From no formal school qualifications to part time employment and secured bricklaying course
College Connect Step Up case studies allow readers to hear from people who have been supported by the Step Up funded projects.
After leaving school without the qualifications to progress to a Level 2 course the participant joined the Step-Up project. He experienced significant social challenges during school which impacted both his confidence and engagement.
Following contact from a key worker he enrolled in the Level 1 Construction programme. Regular mentoring sessions were key in helping him set realistic personal and academic goals.
Over time he became more comfortable in group settings and began to engage more positively with peers.
He successfully completed Level 1 Construction qualification alongside Essential skills in Literacy and Numeracy. He has progressed into part-time employment and secured a place on a Level 2 Bricklaying course. His plan is to continue developing his skills and pursue a long-term career in construction.
The participant said:
“I feel much more confident now and have made good friends”.
