Step Up case Study College Connect - From missed entry grades to a future in childcare
College Connect Step Up case studies allows readers to hear from people who have been supported by the Step Up funded projects.
The participant enrolled on the Step Up programme after not meeting the entry requirements for their preferred course -Level 2 Childcare.
Initially the participant was very quiet and reserved, and it was felt that she would benefit from a programme that provided time and support to develop her communication skills, confidence and other key skills, while also working towards essential skills qualifications.
Throughout the programme, the participant engaged in group mentoring sessions and essential skills classes in numeracy, literacy and ICT. She participated in a range of vocational tasters, including her main are of interest- Childcare.
The participant has since successfully completed the Step Up programme, making progress in all essential skills areas and achieving a Level 1 Vocational skills Certificate. She has now progressed on to Skills for Life and Work, studying Childcare while also continuing her essential skills journey. She has also started a childcare placement in a local daycare where she is thriving.
