    • Step Up case studies

Step Up case studies allows readers to hear from people who have been supported by the Step Up funded projects.

    Background

The participant struggled in formal education during secondary school and didn’t achieve any GCSEs. This student also has a physical disability which further restricts his ability to do certain tasks and felt the additional support and structure of the DARE Programme, under Step Up, suited him best.

With a keen interest in engineering, he gained some practical experience of this and achieved in all areas of the programme and had enough qualifications to join L2 engineering in September 2024. He also gained his CSR card, which allowed him to gain employment until he began the L2 programme.

Upon securing his place on L2 engineering this student said:

“Without you and without this programme, this would never have happened, and I am so proud of myself that I finally get to study engineering”.
