    • Step Up case studies

Focus on unemployed or economically women. The case studies show the positive impact which the support provides for women in building confidence, refreshing skills, gaining qualifications and work experience and to create progression pathways to further and higher education and/or employment.

    Background

Participant enrolled on Step Up Women Returners Access Programme (WRAP) when she saw an advert on social media for mini – First Aid free training. She summed her reason for joining step up as:

“I want to meet new people, improve self-esteem and confidence”

It became clear that the participant needed to overcome these feeling. We focused on meeting new people and mentor suggested enrolling on first aid as it was a small group where she would not feel overwhelmed. After she completed first aid she said

“I felt confident and proud of myself”

The Participant went on to do eyebrow waxing and tinting training, she said of this:

“We all set up a phone group so we can support each other with the theory homework. This helped me feel less isolated and give me a sense of belonging, I feel great and can’t wait to complete the training”

After 3 weeks the participant had completed the training and is now a qualified eyebrow waxer and tinter. She is still in contact with the same group outside of training and has made new friends.

She went on to complete an eye lash classic course and said:

“I cannot believe how far I have come in a short space of time. I feel so confident, motivated, boost in self esteem and all thanks to WRAP for the amazing opportunity”

She has now set up her own business working from home doing eyebrow waxing, tinting and applying lashes. She has set up a social media page to expand her business. Her future plans are to gain qualifications in facial therapies and other beauty regimes that will enhance her future skills and business.

The participant’s destination has shown how support and bespoke training has impacted on her life by breaking down barriers and overcoming personal issues.
