Step up Case study – College Connect + - Job placement secured thanks to Step Up
College Connect Step Up case studies allow readers to hear from people who have been supported by the Step-Up funded projects.
The participant relocated to Northern Ireland with the aspiration of obtaining qualifications to pursue a career as a mechanic within the motor vehicle industry. A combination of personal challenges and communication barriers hindered his ability to acquire the necessary skills to progress within the sector, resulting in a decline in his confidence and self-belief. His mental health and overall wellbeing deteriorated, and he withdrew from the motor vehicle sector entirely.
Through engagement with the Step-UP project and its structured approach he demonstrated a renewed determination to rebuild his confidence, enhance his skillset, and reconsider his original career ambitions. Through the project he accessed various accredited and non-accredited training opportunities, including First Aid, vocational training and employability support such as CV development and interview preparation.
The participant has secured a work placement with a local mechanic. This opportunity, combined with his achievements on the programme has significantly strengthened both his personal confidence and professional capabilities. It has also established a clear and sustainable pathway towards an apprenticeship within the motor sector.
