Step Up Case Study – WRAP – Secured a family-friendly part-time role before programme completion—turning determination into employment - Women Returners Access Programme – Further Education Provision
Focus on unemployed or economically women. The case studies show the positive impact which the support provides for women in building confidence, refreshing skills, gaining qualifications and work experience and to create progression pathways to further and higher education and/or employment.
The participant joined the programme with the goal of securing part-time employment that could accommodate childcare responsibilities. They were highly motivated and engaged from the beginning.
They required support with CV development, job applications, and interview preparation. The key worker provided tailored employability support, including mock interviews.
The main barrier was access to suitable childcare, which limited employment opportunities. Despite this, the participant remained focused and worked closely with their key worker to overcome challenges.
Shortly before completing the programme, the participant secured a part-time job that suited their circumstances.
They stated:
“This opportunity was exactly what I needed, even though it meant leaving the course early.”
The Key Worker commented:
“The participant’s determination and engagement enabled them to overcome significant barriers and achieve their goal.”
The participant now plans to continue in employment while managing family responsibilities, demonstrating the positive impact of flexible programme support.
