Step Up Case Study – WRAP – Confidence built. Skills refreshed. Next step unlocked.
Focus on unemployed or economically women. The case studies show the positive impact which the support provides for women in building confidence, refreshing skills, gaining qualifications and work experience and to create progression pathways to further and higher education and/or employment.
Participant is a 57-year-old female who joined the Step Up to Beauty Therapy course. She wanted to try the programme to develop her skills around makeup and learn more about its different components.
At the beginning of the course, participant was unsure about what to expect but has now become an integral part of the student group and has a good relationship with her peers. She has been willing to support other students on course by encouraging them with their own make up skills. Her own make-up skills have really improved over the weeks she has attended, and she is comfortable in being to apply new make-up techniques to herself and others. As part the Step-Up programme, participant has received a free make-up kit which has helped with her development.
Participant has shown initiative by helping course Tutor during an open evening, which occurred during her time on the Step-Up programme. She took part in demonstration session to show visitors and prospective students what Beauty Therapy course involves and was able to share her own experiences.
Participants own comments during programme included:
‘Enjoying the course... Looking forward to learning new skills.’
Participant has now enrolled on an Indian Head Massage course, which is allowing her to build on the skills she has developed on the Step-Up programme. She is now looking to progress further by applying for the Traineeship in Beauty Therapy.
