Step Up case study - Disability (DARE) – From uncertainty to employment - A confident step forward
Focus on people who have a disability, are aged 16 years or over and are unemployed or economically inactive. The stories highlight the impact of support provided to enhance opportunities to gain qualifications and progress into work or stay in work.
The participant enrolled on the Step-Up programme to improve employability and develop transferable skills. They were motivated from the outset and actively engaged with the support available.
They required support with confidence-building, communication, and job readiness skills. The key worker maintained consistent contact, providing guidance and encouragement throughout.
A key barrier was limited confidence in securing employment. However, through regular engagement and tailored support, the participant developed the skills needed to succeed.
Despite leaving the programme early, the participant achieved their primary goal of securing full-time employment within a short period. They reflected, “The support I received helped me make real progress towards getting a job.”
The tutor noted:
“Even in a short time, the participant demonstrated strong commitment and achieved meaningful outcomes aligned with their goals.”
The participant now plans to continue developing within their role and build long-term career stability.
