Step Up case study – College Connect + - “I finally feel comfortable and happy in education, and I want to keep going”
College Connect Step Up case studies allow readers to hear from people who have been supported by the Step Up funded projects.
The participant enrolled on the project after leaving school without completing any formal exams. He later recognised the limitations of having no qualifications and sought opportunities to return to education. He did not meet entry requirements for other courses.
He required significant support, particularly with literacy and confidence and he suspected he had undiagnosed dyslexia. He lacked confidence and doubted his ability to work independently.
The key worker noted over time with consistent support “the participants growth in confidence and independence has been transformative”.
He has been offered full time employment and has also applied for an apprenticeship.
The participant said:
“I finally feel comfortable and happy in education, and I want to keep going”
