Step Up Case Study - Disability (DARE) - Support with confidence building and engagement
Focus on people who have a disability, are aged 16 years or over and are unemployed or economically inactive. The stories highlight the impact of support provided to enhance opportunities to gain qualifications and progress into work or stay in work.
The participant enrolled on the Step Up project when she did not meet the entry requirements for Level 2 and experienced challenges in school.
She required support with confidence building, engagement and developing a positive attitude towards learning. With her Autism and ADHD diagnosis, mentoring sessions helped her stay focused and motivated.
Barriers included learning difficulties, low confidence and previous negative educational experiences. With consistent support she became more engaged and confident.
She achieved Level 1 Health and Social Care and Essential skills qualifications. Her mentor noted she demonstrated strong commitment. She has progressed into Level 2 Health and Social Care and plans to pursue a career in this field.
