The Department for the Economy provides analysis from the Young Persons’ Behaviour and Attitudes Survey (YPBAS) in relation to careers advice and guidance to year 11 and 12 pupils in Northern Ireland and their future intentions.

The YPBAS is a Northern Ireland school-based survey conducted among 11-16 year olds and covers a wide range of topics relevant to the lives of young people today. The main aim of the survey is to gain an insight into, and understanding of, their behaviour and lifestyle.

Statistical reports

Key findings are presented for year 11 and 12 pupils on their confidence making career decisions, the support they require to achieve their career goals, their awareness of the all-age Careers Service, their knowledge of how to contact a Careers Adviser outside school and their future intentions.

Note, future intentions was added as a new topic in the 2022 YPBAS to replace the university topic asked in the previous round of the YPBAS in 2019.
