    Economy Minister Diane Dodds has made the following temporary appointments to the governing body of Northern Regional College (NRC):

    • Barney McGahan as Chair with effect from 20 April 2020 until the appointment of a new substantive replacement
    • Tony Montgomery as a member of the governing body with effect from 20 April 2020 until the appointment of a new substantive replacement
    • Graeme Wilkinson as a member of the governing body with effect from 20 April 2020 until the appointment of a new substantive replacement
    • Maeve Hamilton as a member of the governing body with effect from 20 April 2020 until the appointment of a new substantive replacement

    The Department has agreed an exemption from the Code of Practice issued by the Commissioner for Public Appointments for Northern Ireland in making these appointments.

    Notes to editors:

    1. The governing body of a further education college is responsible for securing the efficient and effective management of the college, the provision of suitable further education to its students and determining the college’s strategic direction. In sustaining and developing its services, the governing body takes into account the educational needs of the business sector and the local community.

    2. Remuneration: 

    The post of Chair is remunerated at a rate of £20,000 per year plus travel and subsistence allowances.

    The post of governing body member is remunerated at £250 for a governing body meeting and £150 for a committee meeting or event sanctioned by the Chair plus travel and subsistence allowances.

    Graeme Wilkinson and Maeve Hamilton (both current civil servants) are entitled to travel and subsistence allowances only.

    Travel and subsistence allowances are payable at Northern Ireland Civil Service rates in respect of activities carried out whilst fulfilling their duties.
