Skills Strategy
Shaping policy, programmes and initiatives, designed to build and align the skills of people in Northern Ireland with the needs of the economy. Specific Policy areas include Digital Skills, Lifelong Learning, Immigration and also delivery of the CyberFirst Schools and Colleges programme.
Skills Action Plan
The Skills Action Plan builds upon the work achieved under the auspices of the Skills Strategy, as a distinct, forward-looking framework that will deliver the Minister’s Economic Vision through targeted actions to better reflect current and future economic needs.
The Action Plan sets out the key agreed actions that the Department will focus on to ensure that everyone has a pathway to enhance their existing skills. Designed to complement the existing strengths of our education system and the outcomes delivered through our schools, colleges, universities, apprenticeship programmes and the range of employment/pre-employment interventions already established.
The Digital Skills Action Plan
The Digital Skills Action Plan has been developed to help create alternative pathways into the digital sector. A successful collaboration between experts from industry, academia and government to create and develop alternative pathways into the digital sector.
Lifelong Learning
Lifelong Learning encourages continuous learning across all ages, addressing skills shortages, support economic growth, and ensure regional balance in education. The Department works closely with the Alliance for Lifelong Learning, Adult Learners’ Forum and Adult Leaners’ Week.
CyberFirst
The Department is a delivery partner for CyberFirst Schools and Colleges. This UK wide initiative uses extracurricular events, courses and other interventions to encourage and support young people, from all backgrounds, to consider a career in cyber security and other digital technology areas. Ensuring young people have the information they need to make subject choices and aware of pathways to the skills required to work in the technology sector is at the heart of the initiative.
