Regulatory impact assessment (RIA) guidance

Regulatory impact assessment (RIA) is a key tool in delivering better regulation supporting the government's aim of only regulating when necessary and when it is, to do so in a way that is proportionate to the risk being addressed and to deregulate and simplify wherever possible.

Regulatory impact assessments

The Northern Ireland Better Regulation Strategy requires all departments, arms length bodies and other public bodies to consider an RIA as part of their policy development process and when doing so should refer to the following guidance.

Regulatory impact assessment training course

The Northern Ireland Civil Service Centre for Applied Learning (CAL) offers a training course on developing a regulatory impact assessment, based on the above RIA guidance.  This is available through HR Connect.
