European Social Fund (ESF) case study - Causeway Learn to Earn 2

Causeway Learn to Earn, run by Roe Valley Community Education Forum (RVCEF) Ltd, aims to combat poverty and enhance social inclusion to benefit people who are unemployed and/or economically inactive. The Project is part funded through the Northern Ireland European Social Fund Programme 2014-2020 and the Department for the Economy.

Participant's story

This participant started the programme following a long period of unemployment and economic inactivity. During her initial engagement appointment she identified some issues which included low confidence, low motivation and low self-esteem.

She was keen to acquire new skills and to explore the possibility of gaining a qualification to address her personal barriers to work.

The participant attended her classes weekly and became involved in other initiatives within the RVCEF organisation including the Pink Ladies support group and social hubs.

Permanent employment

Having not worked for a number of years, the participant successfully secured part-time permanent employment with a local business.

She says:

“The programme has given me more confidence, I love my job but it’s hard work. If it wasn’t for Roe Valley Community Education Forum I would not have got where I am now. I would recommend this programme.”
