    Sources of funding and Programmes for Green Skills

    Invest Northern Ireland

    Invest NI is the regional business development agency, whose role is to grow the local economy by helping new and existing businesses to compete internationally, and by attracting new investment to Northern Ireland. 

    Invest NI offer a wide range of support programmes to business in NI. The details of five of these programmes are listed below including those that are green related.

    • Invest Northern Ireland

    The Cluster Acceleration Programme (CAP)

    Available to Invest NI clients, the programme offers financial support for SME groups to collaborate and exploit opportunities for competitiveness.

    Resource Efficiency Capital Grant 

    The grant provides support to eligible Invest NI clients to help with the cost of investing in resource efficient technologies that will drive savings and business productivity.

    Invest NI Client Companies can benefit from grants of up to £50k available to help with the purchasing of new equipment.

    • Resource Efficiency Capital Grant 

    Resource Matching Service 

    Available to Invest NI clients, the Resource Matching Service provides the opportunity to transfer business waste, unwanted materials and bi-products from one business or organisation to be reused, recycled, reprocessed and repackaged by another.

    • Resource Matching Service

    Technical Consultancy Support 

    Offered by Invest NI, Technical Consultancy Support can help identify how your business can save energy, reduce waste and optimise the use of raw materials. It is open to any business in Northern Ireland that has an annual energy and resource spend in excess of £30,000.

    • Technical Consultancy Support 

    Energy Efficiency Capital Grant 

    The Energy Efficiency Capital Grant (EECG) provides grant funding to help Northern Ireland businesses reduce energy costs and build resilience through green efficiency.

    The scheme offers support to buy and install energy-efficient equipment that reduces energy and carbon emissions.

    Invest NI has paused the scheme to review its performance against the Department for the Economy’s objective of delivering a greener, more prosperous economy.

    Once a full assessment has been completed the scheme may be reopened.

    Northern Ireland City And Growth Deals  

    City and Growth Deals are tailored funding agreements between the UK Government, the Northern Ireland Executive, and local authorities, designed to unlock investment, support job creation, and accelerate inclusive economic growth.

    National Wealth Fund 

    The mission of the National Wealth Fund is to increase investment across the UK to accelerate the delivery of the government’s growth and clean energy missions, while balancing risk and return for the taxpayer. 

    • National Wealth Fund 

    Shared Island Fund 

    Funding from the Shared Island Fund is allocated by the Irish Government to Departments and Agencies to support the delivery of projects that implement Programme for Government priorities on Shared Island.

    These projects are developed and implemented in partnership with counterparts in Northern Ireland, with a focus on practical cross‑border co-operation across areas such as key infrastructure projects, climate action, tourism, culture, and research.
