Raising Productivity
Topics:
Increases in productivity are associated with higher wages and drive overall living standards.
Productivity improvement runs through most of the work of the Department. We are seeking to drive up productivity by:
- improving work-relevant skills, including through upskilling the existing workforce, with a particular focus on skills in priority economic sectors;
- investing in research and development, supporting the introduction of more innovative practices and new technologies in the workplace;
- using dual market access to grow domestic exports and to attract highly productive Foreign Direct Investment;
- developing all-Ireland clusters in high-productivity sectors and delivering sectoral action plans for those sectors that have the greatest capacity to raise our export performance;
- working with partners to grow a more dynamic economy, with more entrepreneurship activity, particularly drawing on the potential of innovative products and practices;
- supporting leadership and management skills so business leaders recognise the value of investing in productivity; and
- improving the ability of businesses to access the finance they need to invest in productivity.
