Independent review of the impact of changes to UK Migration Policy on the Northern Ireland Economy

Date published: 26 March 2020

Given the importance of migrants to the NI economy the Department for the Economy (DfE) commissioned Oxford Economics to assess the potential economic impacts of the UK Government’s Immigration proposals which will come into effect on 1 January 2021. It is recognised that the economic and social conditions which underpin this research do not remain static and, importantly, the work was produced prior to and does not consider the impact on migration of the current Covid-19 pandemic. Nonetheless, the research does provide valuable analysis on how the UK's new immigration policy could impact on NI and how those impacts could be different here than for the UK as a whole.
