An assessment of the potential for solar PV electricity generation from rooftops in Northern Ireland

As part of the Department’s Open Call for research in June 2023, a research proposal was received from Ulster University (UU). The Department for the Economy funded UU to undertake independent research into the solar PV potential of all properties within Northern Ireland. It also assessed the potential impact of battery storage, in combination with solar PV in domestic properties.

The report summarises the research undertaken, including the methodology used by the researchers, limitations and results.
