Speaking after her visit the Minister said:

"Our small retailers play a vital role in our economy and yesterday’s confirmation by the Executive that all goods retailers can now reopen for business is a welcome step forward as we seek to get the local economy moving forward again. Retailers are at the heart of so many of our town and city centres and help make them the commercial centres that they are.

"COVID-19 has had a devastating impact on our local economy but the recovery has begun and the re-opening of all goods retail outlets is a huge step forward. However, it is important to remind people that, since we will be living with this virus for some time yet, the safety of staff and customers is of paramount importance and all retailers must be able to implement measures that minimise the risk to their staff and to the people who visit their stores. I was pleased to see that Donaghy’s Shoes here in Banbridge has taken all precautions to ensure the safety of staff and customers."
