    The Department for the Economy has today launched a public consultation on arrangements to close the Non-Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) scheme.

    The Department for the Economy has today launched a public consultation on arrangements to close the Non-Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) scheme.

    The Northern Ireland Executive has agreed a pathway to closure, and this consultation seeks views on the Department’s proposed approach.

    Closure arrangements include a payment mechanism based on annual payments, with uplifted tariffs, delivering a solution that is fair to participants and taxpayers alike.

    This consultation is an important opportunity to shape the final arrangements on the closure of the scheme and will run for eight weeks, available until Monday 24November 2025. 

    The consultation is available on the DfE website. 

    Economy Minister Dr Caoimhe Archibald intends to bring a paper to the Executive to confirm the closure regulations and, subject to passage through the Assembly, bring new regulations in to effect by April 2026.

    1. New Decade New Approach included a commitment to close RHI and replace it with more effective decarbonisation support.

    3. Ofgem will stop administering the RHI scheme from April 2026.
