The Minister was speaking to over 300 energy sector leaders as she jointly launched the ‘Energy Ireland’ conference today in Croke Park, Dublin alongside Minister for Climate, Energy and the Environment, Darragh O’Brien TD.

Discussing how the delivery of a decarbonised energy system is the cornerstone of her four economic priorities, the Minister said: “Energy decarbonisation presents shared opportunities and challenges. By working together, we can deliver a net zero future. Bringing people on this journey - changing individual behaviour, how companies operate, and how our economy is structured - is challenging. But there is an opportunity for a fairer and more prosperous economy.

“Implementation and delivery of our energy transition will be driven by many of those in the room today; as innovators, as investors, and as implementors. It is my job as Economy Minister to make sure you are enabled by government to do this.”

Discussing how the energy transition will support homes and businesses, the Minister said: “We are committed to delivering at least 80% of our electricity consumption from a diverse mix of renewable sources by 2030, and by moving towards self-sufficiency in affordable, renewable energy this will help us meet these targets, and bring tangible benefits for homes, businesses and our communities.”

The Minister updated delegates on a number of key actions being delivered through this year’s Energy Strategy Action Plan such as a Smart Meter Design Plan, forthcoming renewable electricity support scheme and discussed the Energy Strategy’s mid-term review to be published by the end of this year.
