Heat Estimates from a Deep Geothermal Installation

On 9 February 2024, the Department for the Economy (DfE) commissioned Sustainable Ideas Ltd (SI) to model the potential amounts of heat that could be sustainably extracted from mid-to deep-level geothermal systems in Northern Ireland. The report examined both a theoretical deep coaxial borehole heat exchanger and a geothermal doublet at depths of 1km and 2km, considering different geological and operational scenarios.
