Decarbonisation
Topics:
A well-managed shift to a low-carbon economy can deliver inclusive growth, ensuring no one is left behind, and will be underpinned by a secure, affordable, and clean energy system that supports carbon emissions reductions and economic growth.
We can build a net zero economy by:
- accelerating the delivery of affordable renewable energy to harness our abundance of natural resources and break the link with global energy prices through energy self-sufficiency;
- delivering a smart, flexible, net zero electricity system to support the decarbonisation of heat and transport, while meeting our climate targets;
- ensuring consumers and communities play an active part in their energy future, are protected, and pay a fair price for the energy they consume;
- enabling the creation of good jobs, investment, and growth of a skills base for the low carbon economy through innovation, support, and focusing on our competitive strengths;
- positioning the region as a key partner for international green investment by leveraging our unique market position with world-leading engineering, technology, and construction expertise;
- helping consumers and businesses unlock the benefits of improved energy efficiency;
- adopting low carbon heating technologies in homes and businesses, which will act as a catalyst for growth of the green economy; and
- developing the circular economy and taking advantage of the opportunities that exist to reduce waste, reduce cost and increase both collaboration and competitiveness across the island.
