Departmental Summary of the Financial Needs Assessment

The Department has published a summary of an independent Financial Needs Assessment of our local five Higher Education Institutions.
Commissioned as the first phase of the broader Review of Higher Education Funding, the report examines the financial needs of the sector in the short to medium term.
The Minister has already acted on some of the report’s findings.
In October 2025 the Minister announced an additional £400,000 of annual funding for St Mary's and Stranmillis University Colleges.
