Economy Minister Diane Dodds said: "Today’s announcement that Flybe is to continue operating is positive news.
"I have impressed upon the Government in London - at the highest level - the economic importance of maintaining connectivity between Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK. Our unique geographical and economic circumstances mean that any reduction in services has an adverse impact upon businesses and our tourism industry.
"I will focus on maintaining the current level of connectivity. My officials have had discussions with BEIS and DfT and I have spoken to the Chief Executive of George Best Belfast City Airport about the current position at Flybe."
