Archibald welcomes continued growth in local economy
Date published:
Economy Minister Dr Caoimhe Archibald has welcomed new figures showing the Northern Ireland economy grew by 1.0% in the second quarter of 2026, reaching a new series high.
The NI Composite Economic Index published today by NISRA shows output was also 2.3% higher than the same quarter last year and is now 12.7% above its pre-pandemic level.
Growth during the latest quarter was driven mainly by increased activity in the services and production sectors, with both contributing 0.4 percentage points to overall growth.
Minister Archibald said:
“These are very positive figures which demonstrate the strength and resilience of our economy and show that we continue to move in the right direction. It is particularly encouraging to see growth across both the private and public sectors, with services and production helping to drive the increase over the latest quarter.
“This positive picture is also reflected in recent trade figures, with goods exports continuing to grow, including increased exports to the EU and increased trade with the south. Our unique Dual Market Access arrangement provides us with a significant competitive advantage. I am determined to maximise that opportunity to attract investment, increase exports and create more good jobs.
“My focus is on building on this progress through the delivery of my Economic Vision, raising productivity and ensuring the benefits of economic growth are felt by people and communities across the north.”
