  • Archibald welcomes continuation of Gaza Student Scheme

    Topics:
    • Higher education

    Date published: 24 June 2026

Economy Minister Caoimhe Archibald has welcomed the announcement that the Gaza Student Scheme will be delivered again in the 2026/27 academic year.

The scheme supports students in Gaza to exit safely and take up confirmed places across Higher Education Institutions in Britain and here.

    The Minister said:

“Education has a critical role to play in providing opportunity and hope in the most challenging of circumstances. This scheme supports talented students to escape the genocide in Gaza and continue their studies.

I have previously called on the British Government to continue this scheme and am pleased this has announcement has been made today.

Last year our universities demonstrated real leadership in supporting students who arrived through this initiative, and their contribution has strengthened our academic community and made a valuable contribution to campus life.

I look forward to welcoming further students to local institutions through the continuation of this scheme and I will work with the British government to ensure their safe and prompt passage.”
