Summary

The purpose of this consultation is to seek views on the level of the Postgraduate Tuition Fee Loan (PGTFL). The PGTFL in Northern Ireland was last reviewed in 2021, resulting in an increase in the maximum loan amount from £5,000 to £6,500 starting in academic year 2023/24. At that time, the Department for the Economy (DfE) committed to reviewing the scheme every three years. This 2025 consultation is part of that commitment and is intended to ensure that any changes can be implemented by academic year 2026/27.

• Option 4 – Raise the level of the PGTFL to £10,000
