  • ESF Information Memo 21/21 - NI ESF - Safeguarding Champions Register

    Topics:
    • European Fund Management,
    • European Social Fund

This memo provides guidance on the Safeguarding Champions Register and was published on 19 July 2021.

    Dear Project Promoter,

Northern Ireland Adult Safeguarding Partnership (NIASP) states

    “Safeguarding is everyone’s business”.

Project promoters must have in place safeguarding arrangements and clear policies for the protection of young people and adults at risk as per paragraph 3.2.6 of the ESF Call 2 Operating Manual (April 2018).

Projects have a duty of care, ie a legal obligation, to take reasonable steps to ensure the safety and well-being of young people and adults who attend your setting and to protect them from harm.

To support this, in the event of having to pass on information received externally, eg from PSNI, the Department has decided it should keep a Register of nominated Safeguarding Champions.

Please provide the name, e-mail address and mobile telephone number for both your Safeguarding Champion and their deputy. Details should be sent to esfperformancemonitoring@economy-ni.gov.uk by Wednesday 28 July 2021.

I would also appreciate if you could also let us know when the contact details for Safeguarding Champions (and their deputies) change so that we may keep the Register current.

Any queries relating to this should also be directed to the mailbox above.

    Kind regards,

    Annie McGowan
Head of ESF Project Delivery Branch
