Work-Life Balance

Our employment law framework offers a broad system of support to working families as they progress through various life stages; the support covers maternity, paternity, shared parental leave, parental bereavement leave, flexible working and many more ways that try to take account of the different challenges families face.

Currently the Department is consulting on proposed changes to the employment law framework which will deliver on the Minister’s commitment to facilitating workforce participation through supportive policies, like the provision of enhanced flexible working entitlements; a right for carers to take leave; and the right to neonatal care leave and pay, which  align with the broader economic priorities of good jobs, regional equality, and sustainable growth.

The consultation was launched on 1 July and closes on 30 September 2024.

Further details about the consultation may be found at The 'Good Jobs' Employment Rights Bill.’
