Search begins for new Chairperson for the Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland

The HSENI vision is to achieve world-class performance in workplace health and safety and therefore improve the overall economic and social well being of our community.

Individuals who have the essential skills of Leadership, Governance in an Organisation, Thinking Strategically and Working in Partnership are encouraged to apply. Whilst skills and experience in Health and Safety management are valuable, they are not essential and will not be a criterion for appointment.

The Department would particularly welcome applications from women, people with a disability and those from ethnic minorities as they are currently under-represented on the Board.

The Department will operate a Guaranteed Interview Scheme for applicants with a disability.

This is an open competition which involves an application form and interview. Appointment will be based on merit against the essential criteria. Closing date for receipt of applications is 5.00pm on Friday 30 September 2016.

The new Chairperson will be appointed with effect from 1 April 2017 although there will be the opportunity to ‘shadow’ the outgoing Chairperson with effect from 1 January 2017. The term of appointment will be for three years. The time commitment normally amounts to one and a half days per week or equivalent and remuneration amounts to £19,245 per annum from 1 April 2017. (Remuneration during any shadow period will reflect the actual time commitment made).

All reasonable travel and subsistence costs and any dependant-carer expenses incurred whilst undertaking board duties will be reimbursed where applicable.
