Reappointment to Board of Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland

  1. The Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland is a non-departmental public body (NDPB) with Crown status, funded by grant-in-aid from the Department for the Economy. It was established on 1 April 1999 by an Order In Council, amending the Health and Safety at Work (Northern Ireland) Order 1978. Its mission is to ensure that risks to people’s health and safety arising from work activities are effectively controlled.
  2. All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, the Commissioner for Public Appointments, Northern Ireland requires the political activity of appointees (if any declared) to be published. The appointee has not had any political activity in the past five years.
  3. Membership of the Board of HSENI carries a remuneration of £3,850 per annum.
  4. Lindsey has been a self-employed consultant on leadership and management issues since 2007. She is also a part-time associate lecturer at Queen’s University Belfast. She was Head of the Identity and Passport Service for Northern Ireland until 2007, having worked in the organisation from 1989. She brings a good understanding of governance issues, clear strategic thinking, and very effective communication skills to her role on the board.  Lindsey is a Non-Executive Director on the Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority for DHSSPS (since 2011) – (Remuneration: £5,962 per annum).
