The Department for the Economy funded the Fraser of AIlander Institute (FAI) at the University of Strathclyde to undertake independent research to investigate the potential for an offshore wind supply chain in Northern Ireland.

The Department for the Economy committed in Action 20 of the Energy Strategy 2022 Action Plan to “carry out a cost/benefit analysis of electricity and gas smart meters” in Northern Ireland which was completed in December 2022.

Northern Ireland (NI) Geothermal Energy Week (#NIGeothermalWeek) was held between 13- 17 June  2022 at Riddel Hall, Queen's Management School, Queen's University Belfast.

The Department for the Economy commissioned Arup to undertake research into energy efficiency policy to inform the development of a new Energy Strategy for Northern Ireland.

The Department for the Economy has produced a report on the potential renewable electricity projects coming through the planning pipeline. The report provides information on projects at various stages of the development process.

As part of Department for the Economy’s consideration around future renewables energy policy, the department contracted Cornwall Insight, in partnership with Ionic Consulting, to conduct research on renewable electricity and possible future policy in Northern Ireland.

In summer 2019 the Department for the Economy undertook a call for evidence relating to hardship associated with participation in the Non-Domestic Northern Ireland Renewable Heat Incentive Scheme.

Under Regulation 59(2) of the Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive Scheme Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2014, the Department for the Economy is required to publish information on the Domestic RHI scheme in aggregate form. 

Under Regulation 51(2) of the Renewable Heat Incentive Scheme Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2012, the Department for the Economy is required to publish information on the non-domestic RHI scheme in aggregate form.
