Extensions to Invest NI public appointments

The Department for the Economy has announced extensions to the terms of office of five board members of Invest NI.

The tenures of board members Deborah Lange, Mark Nodder, Dr Mark Sweeney, Padraig Canavan, and Judith Totten, have been extended for two months from 1 April 2022 to 31 May 2022 to provide continuity while the Department runs a competition to appoint seven new board members.

The extensions were made in accordance with the Code of Practice issued by the Commissioner for Public Appointments for Northern Ireland.

Notes to editors: 

1. Invest Northern Ireland was established under the Industrial Development Act (Northern Ireland) 2002, and its role is to promote innovation, enterprise and competitiveness in Northern Ireland businesses, encourage new start-ups and market Northern Ireland as a location for inward investment. Remuneration for board members is currently £12,768 per annum.

3. Ms Lange is also a member of the board at the Belfast Harbour Commission (remuneration £24,708 per annum). Mr Nodder is joint Chief Executive of Makers Alliance, employed by SIB for a fixed term period of one year which expires in June 2022 (remuneration £55,000 per annum). Mr Canavan is a governor of both the North West Regional College and St Mary’s College (both unremunerated). None of the other appointees hold any other public appointments.
