Regional balance
Economic disparities have grown between areas that perform well and those that are being left behind.
There will always be differences in how an area chooses to grow its economy or can do so, but where there is a systematic barrier or persistent problem, it is time to tackle those issues to deliver greater regional balance.
Every community should be able to realise its potential, to harness its local strengths, to give everyone the chance to earn a decent living and be successful wherever they choose to live.
That is why improving regional balance is at the heart of the Economic Vision.

Minister's Statement
The Minister made a Statement to the Assembly regarding the Plan on 1 October 2024
It is the first step in kickstarting actions to tackle imbalance. It isn’t the panacea, and as it only focuses on DfE's remit, it will need support across government. It is a new era for the department and its arms-length bodies.
