Evaluation of summer 2020 awarding for vocational qualifications in NI

Date published: 19 May 2021

DfE commissioned CCEA Regulation to carry out an evaluation of the extraordinary awarding arrangements for vocational qualifications in NI during summer 2020 in response to Covid-19.

The pandemic continues to present unprecedented challenges to the vocational qualifications system and the key priority for summer 2020 was to ensure, as far as possible, that learners were not disadvantaged and received timely awards that enabled progression pathways.

The evaluation sets out a range of quantitative and qualitative evidence, and assesses the effectiveness of the approach in delivering against a range of objectives. The report also provides valuable learning, and the department will continue to collaborate with key delivery partners to ensure that any lessons learnt are effectively implemented, particularly in light of the continued efforts to mitigate the effects of the pandemic on the delivery of vocational education in Northern Ireland.
