Cost to the local economy

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) in Great Britain periodically provide estimates of the cost of workplace injuries and ill-health to the economy, but do not include data for Northern Ireland.

The Health and Safety Executive in Northern Ireland (HSENI) requested that DETI Analytical Services Unit (ASU) estimate the cost to Northern Ireland of workplace injuries and ill-health using the same methodology as the HSE report.

The report provides figures on the costs to the local economy up to 2010/11 and seeks to overcome previously identified weaknesses in the data. It can be found here:
