Summary

The consultation sets out elements of our approach to activity across priority sectors of the Northern Ireland (NI) economy, focusing on innovative technologies and Unique Selling Points (USPs) within each. Consultation description

The 10X Economic Vision, published in May 2021, highlighted the need to focus activity on priority/high potential sectors, where NI has established strengths and can compete globally. As such, the department has undertaken work to develop a 10X Technologies and Clusters approach and has subsequently focused on seven priority sectors of the NI economy, including areas such as agri-tech, life and health sciences, and advanced manufacturing, materials and engineering.

The current consultation sets out the planned approach to activity within each sector, with likely key technologies and USPs to drive benefits at scale listed for each. Furthermore, an indication is given of the key policy actions DfE and partners may use to drive the growth, uptake and scaling of these technologies and USPs. Finally, the merits of focusing on key strengths in different geographical areas of NI is discussed, alongside how the Technologies and Clusters work may integrate into a future Sub-Regional Economic Plan. Responses to this consultation will help to develop and refine our current approach to 10X Technologies and Clusters work, the benefits of which we hope will be felt across all our society.
